Glad you enjoyed your time at the Cafe, Doug.

John Quoted in Chicago Tribune – Are you building your ship?

Sometimes in the midst of all the economic and world news you forget just how much you are actually in control of your own destiny.

In this recent article in the Chicago Tribune, John explains that people who are passionate, smart, and able to “get things done” are always able to write their own ticket.

“Clueless Mom” not so clueless anymore

In this recent review, a young mom talks about her positive experience with The Why Cafe.

Here are a couple of highlights.

“It has really caused me to re-examine myself and what I want for my future. It has been a while since a book has done that for me.”

“By the end of the book not only had John learned something about his life, but I had as well.”

The Why Cafe called “Great career advice book”

Bud Bilanich, a success coach from Denver, Colorado recently wrote about his experience with The Why Cafe.

In his article he commented, “I love this little book. I have read it three times since it came in the mail.”

John Quoted in U.S. News and World Report

What is the point of earning money?

You can read a bit about John’s answer to that question in this recent article he was quoted in for U.S. News and World Report.

Fear of failure can keep you from success.

There is an interesting dialog evolving following an interview John did recently.

The interview was on the topic of what to do with your tax return this year. John’s take was spend it on something that has long lasting value. Have an amazing experience directly in line with your PFE. Use it to fulfill one of your Big Five for Life.

The basis for his answer is that not only does it make logical sense to live the life you really want, when you dig into the mathematics, it really makes sense.

Here are a couple of the big statistics he uncovered. Some of these are quoted in the initial article, others aren’t.

- One out of five men in American never make it to age 65

- 29% of men in America experience a life threatening cancer, heart attack, or stroke by the time they are 65

- When you adjust for inflation, the S&P 500, which is the benchmark most mutual funds try to beat (and most don’t) has lost 21% of it’s value over the last 11 years. That means that if you invested $1,000 into the S&P 500 11 years ago, not only has it not gone up, it’s now only worth $790.

As you will see when you read the article and some of the associated comments, John’s take on this generated some interesting responses. Most interesting though, is that the responses of the people who disagreed, tended to be fear based vs. fact based. Even the title of the article is an example of fear based thinking.

Sometimes we get so tied to a belief system or pattern of behavior that we ignore the reality of the situation. In this case, that could result in really missing out on opportunities to fulfill your PFE and Big Five for Life.

Enjoy the article.

HR Matters Magazine Calls The Why Cafe – Inspiring

One of the unexpected joys of The Why Cafe adventure has been watching fans of the book share it with their teams and co-workers in their workplaces.

In this latest review, HR Matters Magazine calls the new 2011 edition of  The Why Cafe “Inspiring.”

According to editor Rowena Morais,

“The book is excellent for realigning you and making you stop and reconsider. It’s very easy to get caught up in the busy-ness of daily life. To be completely immersed in the daily goings-on of your children’s lives or your careers and lose sight of where you want to be or even who you want to be. The fact however is that who we are sometimes is very different to who we want to be.

Sometimes we need to get away for a while to realign, sometimes we need to meditate, or read particular books or be open to new experiences. Whatever it is that we need, we sometimes are required to make a complete full stop on our lives and reassess where we are, what we are doing and where it is that we want to be.

This book helps us in that.

It talks about our PFE or our Purpose for Existing. The argument the author makes is that the most fulfilled people are those who know their PFE and do what it takes to fulfill it.

I recommend this book because it’s an excellent book to really make you think about what you are about and what you want to be.”

John P. Strelecky interviewed on CBS television about The Why Cafe

In this interview, John explains a bit about the experience of writing The Why Cafe. The interviewer references the comparisons that have been made between The Why Cafe and two inspirational classics, The Alchemist, and Jonathan Livingston Seagull.

This is not a total surprise, as those are two books that had a significant impact on John earlier in his life.
